At Central Park, in Manhattan (N.Y. City) an Iceland Gull was again at the
Lake, and after taking bread from passersby (tourists, not birders, at about 1
p.m.), the smutty / winter plumage gull moved out to the still-iced-over
portion, nearer to W. 77 Street. A number of other birds seen in the vicinity
(within half-a-mile) in Central at mid-day included American Woodcock (1),
Rusty Blackbirds (2), Red-winged Blackbird, Brown Thrasher (an overwinterer),
Hermit Thrushes (at least 3 different individuals, all wintering), Swamp &
(several) "red" Fox Sparrows, plus a wide variety of other expected and typical
species for Feb. - with a very good count of Black-capped Chickadee and Tufted
Titmouse, as has been all thru the fall & winter seasons.
