I made it down to the Fire Island hawkwatch within a half hour after Bobby
Kurtz's call, but the bird had moved west and out of sight by the time I
arrived. I checked likely-looking patches of Panicum amarum (aka Blue Grosbeak
candy) all the way to Field 2, but could not find any blackbird flocks feeding.
(I did find a bright Dickcissel feeding in Panicum near Field 2).

Heading back over the inlet, I decided to check a few more patches of Panicum
at Captree SP. Astonishingly (absurdly?), there was a Yellow-headed Blackbird
feeding there with a single molting juv male BH Cowbird, near the southwestern
corner of the main (lower) lot.
