At Jones Beach today, there was a Lark Sparrow seen briefly around 12:15
along the middle exit from the West End 2 lot, from where it flew into the
field just to the east. At about 2:00, a Red-headed Woodpecker flew into the
Field 10 lot (fishing piers), stopping briefly in a tree in front of the
building there, then flying over the building in a direction that might have
taken it toward the area where an RHW was seen in the spring. A Red-throated
Loon, still somewhat in breeding plumage, was seen in the channel (out of
photo range) near the Coast Guard station. Royal Terns were a frequent sight
in this area during the morning.
