Greetings!
A LARK SPARROW has been seen the last few days at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve
- Camp Saratoga, near Saratoga in [surprise!] Saratoga County. The bird was
first reported to e-bird on 7/2/15 by Brendan Hathaway and was relocated
yesterday and seen by numerous birders.
This is at least the 3rd Region 8 record and appears to be the first in e-bird
for NY for the June/July period. This is in habitat that is being managed for
the Endangered Karner Blue Butterfly [which was abundant yesterday]. Although
it was hanging out with the abundant Chipping and Field Sparrows, no breeding
behavior was observed or has been reported.
This is located just off Exit 16 of I-87 N [The Adirondack Northway, not
Thruway]. Those who may be planning to visit Saratoga during the track season
may want to check this and the other Wilton Preserves out as well, and of
course report it all to e-bird !
Good Birding!
