Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

     10/21: A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found at the Visitor’s Center and 
has continued to be seen through the week. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and 45 
SANDHILL CRANES were seen in Knox-Marsellus Marsh. Sandhill Crane numbers 
increased to over 70 later in the week.

     10/22: 2 CACKLING GEESE and a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen along the 
Wildlife Drive.

     10/24: A LEAST BITTERN was seen at Benning Marsh on the Wildlife Drive.

     10/26: 2 late COMMON GALLINULES were seen at VanDyne Spoor Road. Another 
was seen on the Wildlife Drive.

     10?27: By the end of the week 27 species of waterfowl were reported 
including a LONG-TAILED DUCK seen again at the Visitor’s Center.







Onondaga County

     10/21: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in flight at the Erie Canal in 
Fayetteville.

     10/26: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen on Onondaga lake from the West 
Shore Trail. It was relocated on 10/27.







Oswego County

------------




10/21: A SURF-SCOTER was seen at Selkirk Shores State Park on Lake Ontario.




     10/26: A FORSTER’S TERN was seen and photographed at the outlet of Sandy 
Pond on Lake Ontario. 6 species of raptors including RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and 
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at Bishop Road north of Pulaski.







Madison County

------------




     10/27: A late VESPER SPARROW was seen on Warner’s road north of Canastota.







Oneida County

------------




     10/24: A rare for here GREAT CORMORANT was found at Sylvan Beach on Oneida 
Lake. It had been seen through yesterday. Up to 4 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS 
were seen at Sylvan Beach and were reported through the 26th.

     10/25: A RED PHALAROPE was seen at Sylvan Beach.

     10/26: A BRANT and a SURG SCOTER were seen at Sylvan Beach. A RED-HEADED 
WOODPECKER was again seen at Verona Berach State Park.







Herkimer County

------------




     10/21: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen at the Eatonville Reservoir east of 
Herkimer.

     10/26: A late VESPER SPARROW was seen at a private Residence on Military 
Road west of Dolgeville.
