Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - Friday, Aug. 7th - At least one Cerulean Warbler was ongoing at Central Park, along with at least eleven other migratory warbler species on the day. Prairie Warbler may have been new to the southbound migration season here. All of the other species were represented by more than one individual and the majority by multiple individuals. N. Waterthrush showed another uptick, and again some of that species were away from any nearby water, as can be typical in migration, esp. for newly arrived migrants of that species. N. Parula also showed a bit of increase. N. Yellow Warblers and American Redstarts continued in numbers, and Black-and-white Warblers were also in many locations.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds were present in the multiple again. Least Flycatcher was identified among Empidinax-genus flycatchers passing thru, and the regular breeding flycatchers of the park were each present in the multiple - Great Crested Flycatcher, Eastern Wood-Pewee, and E. Kingbird, with the latter in numbers in early morning indicating some diurnal southbound movement. At least 70 total species of wild, free-flying birds were in Central Park on Friday alone. Elsewhere in Manhattan and N.Y. County, some of the regular, annual shorebirds were again being found, including multiples of Solitary and Spotted Sandpipers.
