Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - Monday, August 10th - Two Caspian Terns showed on the reservoir at Central Park, first noted by A. Kramer and later seen by many, on Monday 8-10. A Cerulean Warbler was ongoing in the Ramble area of the park. Also arriving or continuing were at least 21 species of warblers including such species as Worm-eating, Hooded, Bay-breasted, Black-throated Green, and Magnolia Warbler and at least 16 additional warbler species. Yellow-bellied Flycatcher as well as Least Flycatcher were found along with a diversity of other southbound migrants. Incidentally, Bay-breasted Warbler is -NOT- record early at all, many of the warblers seen are simply in the first weeks of standard arrival periods, with peak southbound migrations of some species expected later in the season, each year. The peak month for diversity in autumn or really southbound-migration for American warblers is now - that is, the month of August. By September, overall numbers of some warbler species grows, but peak diversity starts to drops off, within our region.
