LCentral Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - Monday, September 21 - As found by independent observers and photographers and by those with or in support of not-for-profit organizations and institutions offering regular guided bird walks which support conservation, education, sound science, and natural diversity, including many guided walks in Central Park and in many other locations around the county and N.Y. City, those in Central Park on Monday found at least 21 species of migratory warblers, that tally not including the report of a Connecticut Warbler in the Ramble area. In lower Manhattan a Canada Warbler, very slightly late for that species, was additionally noted.
Sparrows found in Central Park again on Monday included Lincolns, Savannah, Swamp, Chipping, Field, many-multiple White-throated and the nearly year-round Song Sparrows. Indigo Buntings were also still being found. Among the multiple flycatcher species were slightly-late now Great Crested Flycatcher as well as some Empidonax-genus flycatchers, including Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. Olive-sided Flycatcher was also reported Monday. At least 4 species of vireos were found on Monday, with Eastern Warbling Vireo getting slightly-late, while Red-eyed Vireo is still moderately common and Blue-headed Vireos might still increase. White-eyed Vireo is a species that has, very rarely, even wintered in N.Y. City, and is an annual breeder in this city. Also in Central Park, another report was made of Summer Tanager, in a month which has featured multiple confirmed sightings for the county. More than ninety species of wild, free-flying birds were found on Monday 9-21 for Central Park alone, by birders and photographers out all thru the day and in all sectors of that park, rather than only one section and for only a limited time period.
