New York County -in N.Y. City- including Randalls, Roosevelt, Governors, and Manhattan islands and the adjacent waters and sky - Tuesday, September 22 -
At least one photographed Grasshopper Sparrow was found - A. Drogin - at the defunct driving range section of Randalls Island on Tuesday, with other observers also able to see and photograph. There may have been a 2nd individual of that species in the area. Many other migrants were also seen on Randalls, and the Yellow-crowned Night Herons were still around, at this most-reliable site for the latter in this county. A female Summer Tanager was still at Central Park, in the area near Hallet Sanctuary in the parks southeast corner. A Connecticut Warbler was seen in the Ramble of Central Park by a not-for-profit birding group, as well as by additional independent observers, this bird perhaps a lingering individual there. At least 5 vireo species were present in Central Park, including photographed Philadelphia and Yellow-throated Vireo. Many other migrant species were still being seen in Central Park, and at many, many other locations around the county. An American Wigeon has lingered in Central Park, as some more waterfowl movements occur around the county. Green-winged Teal also were ongoing at Central Park. Other migrant birds hanging in thru Tuesday included Great Crested Flycatcher, Veery, and multiple Indigo Buntings, Scarlet Tanagers, and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks as well as Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in some places with appropriate nectar sources. Migrant birds continue to be seen in good diversity in the larger and many smaller parks as well as many other greenspaces, including various gardens, churchyards open to the public, plazas and still other places around the county.
