Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - into Thursday, September 24 - A female-plumaged Summer Tanager was ongoing to Thursday around the Hallett Sanctuary area in the parks southeast corner - this individual had been lingering in that area for some time by now.
Veery was found in the Ramble section of the park on Thursday during a guided bird walk led for the nonprofit institution, the American Museum of Natural History. Other related thrushes also found on Thursday included Gray-cheeked Thrush - and others with that appearance not designated to species, and Swainsons, Hermit, and Wood Thrushes. Golden-crowned Kinglet is new to this season here, and besides Central Park at least a few were turning up elsewhere in the county by Thursday. Ruby-crowned Kinglets are the more-numerous as is typical for this early-autumn period here. At least 22 species of migratory warblers were ongoing at Central Park, with some species still in double-digit numbers over all of the park. In waterfowl, Ruddy Duck, Green-winged Teals, and American Wigeon all continue in the park, as do multiple Wood Ducks, N. Shovelers, and Gadwall along with other usual waterfowl of the park. Laughing Gulls continue to show, especially at the C.P. reservoir, in numbers. Overall for Thursday morning alone over 85 species of birds were being found, with more a possibility on the day. Many other parks and greenspaces all around Manhattan had migrant birds into Thursday, as well as more generally around all of the county.
