This morning at "Low" Tide at Plum Beach there were at least 8 Black Terns milling around just off the tip (the easternmost end of the beach). I put the "Low" in quotation marks because even though it was supposed to be low there were almost no flats visible, so these swells from Tropical Storm Danny are clearly already extremely high. Also on the limited flats (really just two sparse sand spits) were the continuing 2 "Western" Willets.
At Floyd Bennett Field there were tons of Eastern Kingbirds. A conservative estimate would be 65, but I would bet there are well over a hundred in the fields there today. There were also scattered shorebirds in various fields and runway puddles consisting of small numbers of Semipalmated Plovers, Least Sandpipers, and Killdeer and singles of Black-bellied Plover and Greater Yellowlegs. Yesterday at high tide shorebirds were more numerous and I would imagine the same would be true for today and the next few days. More surprising were the 2 Blue-winged Teal in the runway puddle at the NW corner of the base. Good Birding -Doug Gochfeld.
