This morning Seth Ausubel, Bobby Rosetti and I birded Tobay, Robt. Moses, and Jones beach in an unsuccessful search for rarities, but some good birds were seen.
Highlights were: Tobay - 2 Black Scoters, several flyby Roseate Terns, a Wilson's Storm-Petrel and 2 Gannets Robt. Moses - subadult Parasitic Jaeger field 3 flying east, 1 Wilson's Storm-Petrel, several Roseate Terns (possibly as many as 20), 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 1 in field 2, the other field 3 WE Coast Guard Station - several Roseate Terns on the spit including 1 juvenile - rarely seen there, at least by me -, at least 5 Black Terns, 3 Lesser Black-backed gulls (on the beach and in the parking lot), and 3 Pectoral Sandpipers on the ocean side. Also a possible flyby Buff-breasted Sandpiper All the Lesser Black-backed Gulls were adults or 3rd year birds. _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail® is up to 70% faster.
