I received a report of 2 American White Pelicans seen late Monday morning from a birder at the West Pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, in Queens County - the birds said to have flown from the north at fairly low elevation and then gone out of the observer's sight-line, with apparently no other birders having noted the 2 huge birds - the observation from near Bench 12 on the West Pond trail, at about 11:30 a.m. on Mon., 31 Aug. Of interest is also a report from Connecticut along Long Island Sound's shore of an American White Pelican, that report for a Sunday sighting, 30 August.
