On the west side of Rt. 105 in Riverhead (north of the Riverhead Fire
Department's practice facility) late this morning there were seven
American Golden Plover on a recently plowed field accompanied by a
single Black-bellied Plover and six Killdeer. A strong west wind was
keeping the birds huddled behind the large clods of dirt that had been
turned over. Further south, also on the west side of Rt. 105 (south of
the fitness center where the power line crosses Rt. 105), there was a
single Buff-breasted Sandpiper feeding with fifteen Killdeer and a
single Semipalmated Plover.
