Jones Beach and Pt. Lookout 4 Jan

Joe Giunta and I (Sy Schiff) went to Jones  Beach before noon and stopped by 
Pt. Lookout on our return. An interesting Winter Birding day. An abbeviated 
annotated list follows

Common Eider, ~60 in two groups off Pt. Lookout (PL) jetties

Harlequin Duck, 6 same

Long-tailed Duck, very numerous everywhere

Black Scoter,1 (PL)

Surf Scoter, several flocks flying east from field #6

Northern Harrier, 2

Black-bellied Plover,from inlet Jones Beach side looking west

Bonaparte's Gull, a  dozen on ocean (PL)

Horned Lark, 25 swale Westend #2

PINE WARBLER, western turnaround road with Yellow-rumps

Field Sparrow,2 by Coast Guard Station enterance

Ipswich Sparrow, 2 on and by snow fence, Westend #2

LAPLAND LONGSPUR, a single bird next to curb by marina boardwalk

Snow Bunting, 25 (PL)

Brown-headed Cowbird, 20 on Concession Building at Coast Guard Station.
