Hello All, The Orient CBC was first held on Dec. 25, 1904.Its sole participant and founder was Roy Latham, a farmer from Orient Point.When I first met him he was in his nineties and still taking note of birds around his farm.Here is a partial list of last Saturday's count. Driving was quite hazardous in the swirling snow and frozen road surfaces enroute to the North Fork. There were several near spinouts and one complete Loop d Loop by team members with all involved arriving unscathed.Birds noted were 2 Vesper Sparrow,[seen by John Sepp], Swamp Sparrow, White Crowned Sparrow, American Tree Sparrow,2 Pine Siskin,[seen at Orient State Park],Cedar Waxwing, Eastern Bluebird, Marsh Wren, Winter Wren, Yellowbellied Sapsucker, Pheasant, Roughlegged Hawk,[seen at Orient Point], Wood Duck,Great Cormorant, Northern Gannet,3 Purple Sandpiper,Glaucous Gull,[seen on the Sag Harbor section],and Razorbill,[seen by Mary Laura Lamont on her way over to Plum Island.Good January Birding, Carl Starace --
