Norm Klein and I birded from 7:30am-12:00am this morning at Sunken Meadow State
Park. We ended our day with a total of 79 species which included 14 species of
warbler. Below are our highlights.
Turkey Vulture- 2 flyovers
Green Heron- 1 near footbridge
Wood Duck- 6
Greater Yellowlegs- 2 wading in tidal flats East of Field 3
Great-crested Flycatcher- FOS, Nature Center
Eastern Kingbird- 2, Inner Marsh trail
White-eyed Vireo- 5
Warbling Vireo- 1 singing near Field 1
Northern Rough-winged Swallow- 1
Bank Swallows- FOS, at least a dozen zooming above bluffs before the Golf Course
House Wren- 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet- a single bird flitting in evergreens near Nature Center
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- 3
Blue-winged Warblers- several on territory
Nashville Warbler- 1, Inner Marsh trail
Northern Parula- many
Yellow Warbler- too numerous to count
Black-throated Blue Warbler- 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler- too numerous to count
Prairie Warblers- several on territory
Palm Warbler- 3
Blackpoll Warbler- 2, very early
Black-and-white Warbler- many
American Redstart- 2 singing along Inner Marsh trail
Ovenbird- FOS, 2 on trail near Golf Course
Northern Waterthrush- 1, Inner Marsh trail
Common Yellowthroat- too numerous to county
Eastern Towhee, Chipping, Savannah, Song, Swamp, and White-throated Sparrows
Brown-headed Cowbird- 2
Orchard Oriole- 1 immature male singing
Baltimore Oriole- 2 males
Once back at his house, Veery and Rose-breasted Grosbeak appeared, adding to
our day's list.
