There was an excellent variety of spring migrant (and some local breeders)
shorebirds present at WE2 this morning. Good numbers of shorebirds were
observed at both the WE2 Marina sandbar and the swale south of the WE2
pavilion. A total of sixteen species of shorebirds were seen, many in high
breeding plumage. Highlights included ten White-rumped Sandpipers, 100
Short-billed Dowitchers, forty Red Knot, as well as numerous Semipalmated and
Least Sandpipers.

The WE2 median was fairly quiet with a single Bay-breasted Warbler being the
highlight, accompanied by a large number of lethargic mosquitoes.

In late morning we took a run at Sunken Meadow State Park, where there were
more migrants than on the south shore. The highlight was a singing Hooded
Warbler in the woods east of the field 4 parking lot picnic area, near the base
of Cardiac Hill. Other warblers present in the picnic area were Nashville,
Blackburnian, Magnolia, Parula, Blackpoll, BT Blue, Black and White, and
Redstart. Other locations in the Park had Blue-winged, Prairie, Yellow, and
Yellowthroat.
