Seventeen Golden Eagles passed the lookout at the Franklin Mt.
Hawkwatch today, according to counter Steve Hall--quite possibly the
biggest flight of the season. Total GEs for the fall now stands at
73--below what would be expected at this time. Generally between
150 and 200 goldens are tallied, but this appears to be a down
year. However, double-digit flights have occurred as late as the
second week of December.
As usual on big days, the birds were clustered around noon, with 14
passing between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
