I noticed a very unusual duck while birding Tifft this afternoon. It appeared to be a male Mallard hybrid of some sort (my best guess is American Wigeon). The bill had a grayish tip, and the remaining 2/3 of the bill was dark in color. The back/ scapular area was typical for a drake Mallard. The head had a appeared to be a light grayish brown, with green appearing in what would be similar to that appearing on an American Wigeon. The lower part of the body appeared somewhat mottled - a washed out version of most female puddle ducks.
I don't have a decent camera, but I would be thrilled if someone was able to get a few shots of this bird!
