I went to Sterling Forest today with Bob Hayes and Gary Strauss. On site were Steve Sachs and "the biggest birder in NJ", who had one of the birds in sight.

Thankfully, as opposed to some negative reports of late, we got to see the birds right away.

for those still wanting to go, I would go earlier rather than later as they seem to take off mid morning to hunt?

from the "i've never seen that dept" One of the birds was observed perched, when it began throwing its head back and proceeded to regurgitate the presumed remains of the dragonflies it had consumed.
