*Gateway National Recreation Area* has released its final draft of the *Gateway

next 20 years. Please review and send in your comments either at a site or
online at www.nps.gov/gate. The deadline is September 30th.

I urge anyone who loves Jamaica Bay to take a real close look and send in
your comments. There are also open houses which I encourage active
participation.

There has been a lot of chatter about leaving the West Pond breach as it is
and allowing the marsh to return to its natural state. This would be a
travesty as Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is IMHO, the crown jewel of Gateway
and a VERY IMPORTANT migratory stopover for shorebirds and other
migrants. The West Pond and its fresh water is critical to the waterfowl!

This is just one red flag, but I leave it up to you to read and review the
content of the plan and decide if the plan addresses the needs of the Bay.

Best,
