Both Isaac Grant and I were on the American Princess today for a whale-watching
trip that went from 12:30-4:30PM. It left from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn and
went out around the Breezy Point tip and headed east, paralleling the shore,
across all of Queens and a couple of miles into Nassau County waters.

Highlights, other than the seven (!) Humpback Whales, were three Cory's
Shearwaters (all in the vicinity of Rockaway Inlet, two to the east in Nassau
and one to the west in Queens), two Common Terns in Queens, four Northern
Gannets (3 in Nassau, 1 in Queens), and a small flock each of White-winged
Scoters and Black Scoters. Also nice was an adult White-crowned Sparrow that
briefly landed on the boat before heading to land.

For $45 this is a pretty cheap way to get out on the water and they are running
a few more trips next weekend.

Good Birding,
Corey Finger
