I spent a little less than an hour roaming around my yard this morning and was rewarded with several first of season (for me) birds. Between 5:10 and 6:05 AM, highlights were:
Chestnut-sided Warbler Brown Thrasher – 1 singing male - I usually get this species during the fall migration. This is the first time I have seen/heard it in the spring. Common Yellowthroat Eastern Kingbird Warbling Vireo I also had a few Pine Warblers, some Yellow Warblers and a couple of Gray Catbirds, one of which seemed pretty intent on out-singing the Brown Thrasher. Nice try Mr., but no cigar. I have 2 pairs of Mallards who come and visit my feeders every day. One of the males has a nice shiny bracelet around his leg. I haven’t had the chance to try and read the numbers yet, but hopefully soon. I am very curious to find out where he got his jewelry.
