Croton Point Park in Westchester was great this morning. Like Tom mentioned
there was a lot of migration occurring last night which was evident on the
radar. The precipitation and fog seemed to have worked perfectly to ground
birds. I started at 7:30 at the Northeast Section of the park where model
planes are commonly flown. Luckily Charles Roberto was also there to witness
the birdy croton point. The fog was very dense( I couldn't see across the
Hudson) and bird activity seemed to only pick up for the first hour. The
unusually high numbers of catbirds and common yellowthroats was neat to see.
Black-throated blue warblers and parulas were also in high numbers around the
park.
Highlights
18 species of warbler including worm-eating which is my first for croton point
My focus was up in the trees but other goodies, were lincolns sparrow,
swainsons thrush and bobolink.
