Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - Wednesday, 21 May, 2014
With a few more than a few observers, & still more seeking, both of
the regular-in-spring Oporornis [genus] warblers (of this region) have
been found in one area this a.m. in the 'Tanner's Spring' vicinity,
just north & just inside the park from the West 81st St. park
entrance, with a playground to go around: those 2 species by common
name are: Kentucky Warbler & Mourning Warbler. IF either have been
giving song[s], that would make the search a bit less difficult. For
some of the news on these 2 birds, both in the same vicinity, thanks
to Elsie Boeger; some additional reports are likely, at some point. If
anyone starts to play recordings of either bird it is LIKELY to drive
that species AWAY from the area...
...
At the Loch in the park's north end, yesterday's Mourning Warbler was
re-found this morning by Tom Perlman, & possibly seen by others as
well, at the Loch closer to Glenspan Arch at the Loch's western side,
and crossing the water, thus could be on either side; from the east
side of the arch however. That arch is found by taking a path downhill
& alongside the waterfall, from The Pool's easternmost point, ie
farthest away from Central Park West & W. 100 or W. 103 St. (either
park entrance gains access to the Pool, immediately below) and for the
Loch one is simply following the outflow of water draining out of the
Pool... the sighting by Tom Perlman came not that long ago.
good luck and there are plenty of other birds out there....
