The previously posted Gyr Falcon was relocated today by Matt Zeitler, at
approx. 3:05PM. Between that time and 5:00PM, approx. 40 Birders enjoyed long
looks at this exquisite bird. The bird was initially found perched in a tall
Pine Tree, West of Hoagerburgh Rd. and just South of Bates Lane. After flying
off, the bird spent an extended time eating over a kill on Old Fort Rd. Old
Fort Rd. is a dead end directly across Hoagerburgh Rd. from Bates Lane. The
bird was eating inside the fenced in area on the south side of the road. For
those familiar, there is usually a pond which is not visible at this time due
to ice and snow cover. The bird then flew back to the original Pine but soon
returned to Old Fort Rd. and perched atop a Telephone Pole. Some time after
5:00PM the bird flew directly North toward the Shawangunk Cliffs. For
those trying tomorrow, please respect the locals. WE, the local birders, have
had a good relationship with the residents of this area for Decades and this
relationship should be continued after this bird leaves. Please do not encroach
on their properties or on the bird. I have included a link to a map of the
