Some photos from yesterday's Shorebird Festival can be seen here <http://birdingdude.blogspot.com/2015/08/shorebird-festival-at-jamaica-bay.html>
I should add that during yesterday's presentation, I learned that the superintendent of Gateway, Jennifer Nersesian, announced that the breach to the West Pond will be closed. That is the text message I received while I was at the north end of the East Pond with a small group who stayed with me. While there is no timeline or details associated with her announcement, it has to be seen as a positive development that we at least have on RECORD, someone from National Park Service committing to closing the breach. l want to also add that I am grateful that Lloyd, Don and Kevin continue to organize this event which is so much needed at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. I hope they continue to do so for many years to come. If you missed the event yesterday, think about attending next year. The usage of places like the refuge for wildlife observation is very key to how decisions are made in maintaining and enhancing existing wildlife habitats.
