About 30 people showed for the second City Island Birds/Bartow-Pell Mansion walk this Autumn. Highlights for the day were the Barred Owl, Peregrine Falcon, Cooper’s Hawk, Northern Harriers and Red-tailed Hawks. Thanks to a tip from Matt Lootens who was on the walk, we checked out the area where he had a brief look at a Barred Owl a few days ago. Sharp eyed Sandy Prosnitz thought she spotted it, as it flew out. Minutes later the bird gave us a great view, as it flew right by us into some neighboring trees. It was a beautiful day to be in this great Bronx Park. Many woodland species were also seen but of particular note were the Cedar Waxwings which gave us long and extensive views throughout the walk. We saw this group in three locations, several minutes apart.
