This is one of the things that puzzled me. I heard it a lot that Mac
crashes much less than Windows. But my experience is the other way
around. When I was using Mac, it crashed more often than any other OS.

Personally I'm much more productive using Linux (Ubuntu). It just
feels right. Although, I have to play games on my WinXP, because not
many good games if any on Linux :(

The silent operation is due to better hardware. My old PC snores while
my newer PC is more silent.
