I remember one of the big issues with Drupal was the amount of classes the system would hook into (sometimes un-necessarily) causing speed issues.
Alot of the big sites I looked at using Drupal claimed to have hacked the core to do away with this. But this was a good year ago, 5.x stuff. Is it still an issue with 6.x?
