For what it's worth, Richard, I couldn't agree with you more.

We employ MS Word as a filter, too: for filtering *out* prospective candidates. If they send us a DOC formatted CV (as most do) then they clearly haven't looked through our site (hint, look at our opportunities page :)) and that lack of attention to detail doesn't impress us much at all.

Also, we're all about open standards, and DOC is not one, it's the poster child for the dark side. This is especially dire considering their chosen field is *the web* - hello, perhaps they should think about using *a web page* as a no-brainer way to demonstrate some competence.

Cheers,

Dave

Not a comment on you specifically, but do people still expect to fill
in word docs when applying for this kind of position? I mean, if you
were a job agency then sure, they're all so far behind the times half
the time they want you to fax something, but a tech company? surely it
wouldn't take 10 minutes to set up a suitable form, either locally or
via Google Forms/FormSpring.

I guess there's something to be said for the idea that someone who
couldn't be bothered dealing with your .doc probably isn't interested
enough for the position anyway, it just struck me as odd.

Richard.
