Hi Brendan, It's amazing what can be done with html5 web apps which are non iOS specific, but this depends on the exact requirements of the app.
A good example of this is http://forecast.io. They wrote a blog post a little while back which was a good read: http://blog.forecast.io/its-not-a-web-app-its-an-app-you-install-from-the-web/ Going the web app route can potentially be a faster learning curve if a native app isn't necessary.
