There is no right or wrong way to solve this problem. Here are my observations and a win-win suggestion to both OBC members and the majority of the non- members:
>The idea is to insure that posted content is of interest to >club members, not just the public at large; as well as >ensuring the integrity of the information posted. Even club members can post something that is irrelevant to OBC. The better option is to educate all list members (members and non-members) about the etiquette to ensure all postings is relevant to the OBC at large. > The two which contained insults or personal attacks > came from non-members. I suspect 90-95+% of all non-members are well-behaved and follow the etiquette. Why should all non-members been penalized for the mistakes and behaviors of a few (1 to 2) individuals? The better option is to allow the new OBC list manager establish some policies and kick those bad apples out of the list if they repeatedly ignore the warnings instead. >Non-members wishing to send a note of interest to the club >can do so via this email address or the OBC office, it will >then be decided if it is of interest to club members. Are you serious? Have the board carefully think through the consequences? Rose-marie has to read and filter all postings from non-members. Some of the postings are very time-sensitive. To give you an example, people was looking for RLCT riding partners or selling their SEC ticket the night before the ride. I certainly hope the OBC board can convince Rose-marie to check the OBC office's mail 24-hrs a day and 7 days a week if they decide to implement the new rules. May be the board members can help Rose-marie in this new task?
