NEW YORK, March 6 (Reuters) - Global credit markets saw more volatility on Thursday, as hedge funds and private equity groups dealt with margin calls and mortgage lenders struggled with their financing.
Prices fell in markets for mortgage backed securities and other asset backed debt. Credit default swap protection costs jumped for corporate debt, and swap spreads widened to record levels. ------------ HONG KONG, March 7 (Reuters) - Asian stocks tumbled on Friday, with Japan's Nikkei losing 3 percent, on fears that more credit-related losses in the global financial sector will push the United States into a recession. The dollar hit fresh record lows against the euro after the European Central Bank played down the prospects of an interest rate cut. It also hit new lows against a basket of major currencies and the Swiss franc, and fell to a fresh three-year low against the yen, adding to pressure on shares of major Asian exporters such as Toyota Motor.
