This isn't new. I used to read /. every day but now I just can't be bothered reading the posts as the signal to noise ratio is so low.  Now www.theregister.co.uk on the other hand  is great - what all IT reporting needs is to be a little more cynical.

I switch between C++/Delphi and scripting languages (AWK) a fair bit. After using Delphi for a little while its always a shock coming back to C++ & the loooong build times, nasty .h/include problems etc. Then of course, switching back to Delphi I find myself wanting a more concise language...

Main problem here is that many programmers only work in one language - most VB/C++ proggers who dismiss OP have never used it.

I run RedHat 7.1 (using KDE) at home. It is very usable for home use (webbrowsing/mail/MP3s etc) but I have to reboot into Win98 at times for some applications where I can't find a decent Linux equivalent. I think having decent dev tools like Kylix will help the development of GUI apps. If its one area that I think Delphi/Kylix is way head of C++ or Perl etc, its the fast development of small GUI apps - and that is exactly what Linux needs.
