Actually if you read the comments there is actually a much more diverse
range of opinions that the /. sterotype suggests.

I'm afraid I can't agree with this, as I am currently making a living at
least partially off Open Source software.

I have a Sourceforge Project!  Okay - maybe you are right.  A majority of
the SF projects just don't have the groundswell of developers required to
develop to the same quality of Linux itself.  That includes my own project.
However I am developing my project to the same standards of my commercial
code - and I am a professional developer.

I think OS Software will pay - but not in the same way as you think.  I am
being funded for example.  In any case - weather Kylix is free or not the
important point is that its desperatly needed on Linux for professional
developers to really start pumping out the apps.  By releasing a 'free'
version they get it into the hands of the techies and developers who have
the responsibility to make decisions on tools.  Its a very good move.

And down with the OS zealots - I agree that Linux needs to shed the 'geek'
image and start concentrating on developing at least one good standard (ie
professional) distro which can compete with MS on the desktop.
