You may be interested in the following utility, which logs onto your mailserver and nukes the ones that have that particular virus before you have to download them:

I doubt the delays have anything to do with Xtra. I don't use Xtra but I'm still seeing delays and multiple repeats of the same messages. It must be a problem with the mailing list software.
