I agree with what Paul said. Symbol Palm is probably the cheapest option, and the conduits can be written in Delphi and there is a Pascal based IDE for developing programs for them, can’t remember the URL off the top of my head.

Dolphin scanners are quite good www.datacol.co.nz but possible might be overkill for only doing stocktake

Zebex scanners would probably be good for the job http://www.dove.co.nz/products/pos/Portable%20Data%20Terminals/RA6010.html depending on number of items may be a bit light on memory.

Don’t know of any off the shelf software, we would normally create some custom software specific to the client as they usually use the scanners for more than stocktake( ordering, receipting etc).

Subject: [DUG-Offtopic] Stocktake using handheld computers

Have a mate looking at stocktaking using handhelds.

He has inventory in Excel - splits into 5 copies for 5 pairs of counter/recorders.

Would like to have 5 handhelds with items/codes/expected quantity pre-loaded.

Stocktakeres record actuals - stock items can be located in more than one location.

Upload and collate output back to master spreadsheet where reconciliation can take place.

Any ideas on software/hardware combination that does this?

TIA

Mike
