I think we need to expand on the "membership committee" bit. I think
it too is a Board Committee, that is has absolute authority to act in
the interests of the community, but that it rarely intervenes and when
it does acts to veto rather than to approve (i.e. most applications
are essentially automatic). To achieve this, I think we need the
application process to include validation by the referees. I'd suggest
that a minimum of two be named and that the application be held in a
"waiting" state until both have verified agreement with the
application online.
If we are in a position to have the web app written to implement the
process, I suggest the flow be:
1. Go to http://membership.opensolaris.org/
2. Apply for membership with the following information
1. Full Name
2. OpenSolaris user id
3. List the OpenSolaris entity(s) in which you contribute
4. For each entity, identify the Solaris user ID of the
Leader who can verify your claim.
5. Those Leaders will be asked to verify your claim online.
6. If you cannot identify a suitable Leader, select "apply
manually" and your application will be referred to the Membership
Committee. [We could have a fallback process of referring to two
existing Members]
3. Wait. As and when your application gets processed
(automatically or by the membership committee) you will be notified
