A rough draft proposal based on thoughts raised at yesterday's
meeting - is this the direction we want to head?

The OGB thanks all of the initial Contributors identified by
the communities for the initial OGB election and ratification
of the constitution. However, due to concerns over the
inconsistent selection of contributors across communities, the
lack of Contributors indicating acceptance of their status
selection, and the impending changes planned to which groups
are Communities, the OGB declines to confer permanent Contributor
status on the initial list of Contributors at this time.
Once the community re-organization is complete, the OGB will
send out a notice to each community explaining the new process.
Each community will have 30 days from this notice to notify the
OGB secretary of their nominations for community facilitator, who
will be responsible for notifying the secretary of contributor
status grants on an ongoing basis, and an initial set of 3 core
contributors. Any community not responding during this time
will be considered defunct - the OGB will determine whether to
shut down the community or appoint a set of Core Contributors
for the community to re-organize it.
Once the OGB confirms these nominations from each community, each
community will open up nominations in their own community for
additional grants of Contributor and Core Contributor.
Members are encouraged to request status grants on their own, but
may be nominated by another, provided they affirmatively accept
the nomination. Each nomination must be either put forward or
seconded by an existing Contributor or Core Contributor of the
community.
Each community will be responsible for determining and publishing
their criteria for Core Contributor and Contributor status, and
their mechanism for approving nominations/requests for status.
The OGB however wishes to make clear that status grants must be
based on contributions to the OpenSolaris community - granting
contributor status to someone who has not participated in
OpenSolaris, but only to closed products behind closed doors
is not the intent of this process. We do not wish to see
contributor lists that are just the members of committees who
do not meet openly - simply submitting the entire set of PSARC
licensees, CRT advocates, or C-Team members is not acceptable.
For the At-Large Community, the OGB grants, pending e-mail to the
OGB secretary, from each contributor indicating acceptance,
Core Contributor status to these groups of Contributors:
1. The members of the CAB / 2006-7 OGB and their Secretary
2. The members of the CAB Governance Working Group
3. The current OGB members
4. The creators of the OpenSolaris distros recognized by the
previous OGB
Further grants of Contributor status from the At-Large Community
will be considered upon request or nomination similar to the
individual community process noted above.
