The discussions led to a document that would have simplified the 
community structure based on the reality of how the community actually 
functions. Then, over time, governance could have grown based on 
community needs. Although the new constitution flattened and 
decentralized some things, it also centralized some key processes 
(membership, project lifecycle, etc) and provided the board with a more 
focused (and I would argue, more effective) role in the community. 
Governance should be broad, I agree. But I don`t see that as involving 
project-level implementations. The board could offer an obviously needed 
community service by providing a long term view and evolving the various 
governance-oriented documents to fit that view.
