If everything uses the same binaries, then there's only really one instance.

I regard the distro constructor as poorly named; what it's really doing
is constructing custom install images, rather than independent distros.
That may be a good thing, but it may not be everybody's view of the
world.

A reference is only interesting if there's something else to compare it to.
