It can be bad enough to persuade some of these companies to
support Solaris at all; adding additional barriers or making them
do extra work is only going to discourage them further.

The full nature of that compatibility remains to be seen, although
some of the design goals of IPS are - quite rightly - at odds with
maintaining compatibility.

Fortunately, quite a lot of stuff doesn't use native packaging at
all.
