I would like to register the T10 vendor ID of "OSOL" for OpenSolaris.
(T10 is the authority that manages the SCSI namespace.)

The reason I want to do this is to allow emulated SCSI devices to have a
T10 vendor ID for inquiry data, both normal page 0 and page 83 simulated
inquiries.

It appears that the process of requesting a T10 vendor ID is free and
simple.

My biggest concern here is how we as a group will manage the subsequent
namespace. I.e. registering the T10 vendor ID is useless if we do not
come up with a way to manage other portions of the SCSI namespace.
(E.g. figuring how to portion out SCSI device ids...) I have a need for
a project specific device id prefix, ala "SDcard-xxxx".

Does anyone in the storage community or OGB have any particular ideas
how best to handle this? It sort of sounds like creation of another
sort of namespace authority. (Btw, a similar registration authority is
likely to be needed for other things as the project grows, e.g. device
driver names, package names, other things?)
