I was a Freshman in high school, probably playing Baldon Dragonrider, a
gnome Illusionist/Fighter who went from 1st to max level in one game
(The cleric killed a dragon with a 'Command' spell), and stayed there
due to 1st ed level limits, collecting a pile of magic items, including
a staff of the arch-magi and a helm of brilliance. He also had "The eyes
of the medusa", allowing him to turn people to stone. Nonetheless, he
died regularly, as 'save or die' traps were common in our games, but,
that's OK, someone else in the party invariably had enough rings of
wishes to rez him. :)
