I just don't think this is the case. Yes, everyone can read and write, but not everyone can write gaming material, nor will everyone want to. When all is said and done, there will be a number of products out there. Diluted market or not, the products will have to stand up on their own merit. Customers will vote "with their feet" -- even if the material if free (like offered on a Web site).
 
So, yes, everyone can make their own game system or setting, but not everyone can make one that's worth a damn. Time will tell who can, and may the best D20-lister win! Heh.
