Or Piers Anthony novels. Or popular music. Or even video games. Plus, D&D has always had a lot of sex & violence. Even in the 2e days, the various Volo's Guides for Forgotten Realms mentioned the best brothels in each area. I haven't read many of them, but some of the Ravenloft products are gruesome So, I'd say no.
