And dont just think about the price tag when you make
a printing decision. Your product will be judged for
its quality as well. I firmly believe you need to aim
high and shoot to play with the big boys like Atlas
and even WotC. Because that is the shelf your products
will be on. Dont class yourself out of the market by
skimping on production value to get that first thing
to print. Understand this: I am NOT saying flash over
substance. I am saying if you do not make a product
that is in the neighborhood of the leaders then YOU
are dictating the response to your product. Why hamper
yourself?
Same with print runs. I could not disagree more with
the idea of printing only 500 units. So what if it all
fails and you are stuck with 2000 copies of your
product? If you arent ready for failure dont try this.
If it fails, your overstock is hardly the problem. The
difference between spending $1500 to print 500 and
$3000 to print 3000 is worth it. You need to position
yourself for success, not failure.
Use our idea: release a free module! That shows what
you are capable of. It creates a desire for your
stuff. It lets you test the market to see what people
think. It is also really cheap--your time plus the
$250 for Acrobat 4.0 and your hosting costs (though
make sure to get a plan allowing large numbers of
downloads).
