Let me be contrary: no, this is NOT the place for such a debate. I would say the place for that debate is the forums on www.fixgama.org. I could be wrong; but I see the original post as VAGUELY on topic, in that Mark wanted to make a wide range of industry members aware of the issue, and this is a place where industry members may be found. And I could be further wrong, but I'm guessing that Mark posted the same message to any list he knows of that is frequented by those in the industry. That awareness campaign includes an effort to funnel the debate to www.fixgama.org. The plan looks to be this: gather the attention of all the interested parties, and get them discussing the matter in one location, rather than in disparate message lists all across the Internet. But once the list members are aware of the matter, I believe the topicality of the matter drops, and the discussion should shift to www.fixgama.org. The purpose of this list is "General Open Gaming Topics". The purpose of the d20 list is "Discussion about the d20 System and the d20 System Trademark Licenses." "Fixing GAMA" doesn't fit in either of those categories; and again, the discussion would be more productive if it took place on www.fixgama.org, where I presume there will be many more interested parties than just those found on these lists. Of course, if some subset of the debate happens on this list, I'll probably follow it with mild interest, as a source of industry insight. "On topic" and "interesting" are not necessarily the same thing. But if you want the discussion to be fruitful, I don't think this list is the right venue. The majority of interested game producers are NOT going to be found here. Just the opinion of a guy who's not (yet) a game producer... Martin L.
